Humanitarian access is an essential pre-requisite for
humanitarian activities to occur, especially so in areas of ongoing conflict and
insecurity which impede the ability of humanitarian actors to deliver assistance
and where beneficiaries are unable to access essential services. The Emergency
Coordination Portal (ECP) is a tool designed to assist land, sea and air
deconfliction efforts wherever humanitarian activities are occurring.
The ECP provides an online platform where information
about the location and nature of humanitarian activities, both at fixed
locations and by mobile elements, can be entered and collated for sharing with
armed actors. Humanitarian actors can be provided logon details at their request
so that they may directly enter, view and modify their entries.
Submission of information onto the ECP does
not provide any guarantees from the UN in regards to the
safety and security of facilities or staff which remain the
responsibility of the individual humanitarian organisation.
